It seems that 2003
is the year of the water block. All the big names in water cooling have
released new versions of their high-end CPU blocks as well as several
new players joining the market at all segment levels. So when GruntvillE
decided to gather up all the big names in high-performance water blocks
the list included; Danger Den, D-Tek, Swiftech, and PolarFLO. So we…
what? Who is PolarFLO? They are one of those “relatively new”
players in the water cooling market. PolarFLO is the brand name used by
Horse of Iron to market and sell their CPU water blocks. Horse of Iron
is a machine shop that is located in, what this east coast resident considers,
the middle of nowhere. Also known as Montana. They decided to get into
the water cooling business by jumping in with both feet, right into the
deep end. Back to what I was saying, we contacted those four companies
and asked them for samples. All the companies sent us blocks almost immediately,
except for Horse of Iron. They told us they didn’t have any and
would have to wait until the end of the month.
So we waited, patiently
working on other reviews. We were very curious about this newcomer to
the market. Other sites had reviewed them favorably, but we wanted to
see for ourselves. Finally, Steve from PolarFLO told us that not only
did he have a block for us, but it was a design that won’t be out
until the end of October…Oh, and by the way, can you please put
us head-to-head with the Swiftech? Needless to say, we were more then
happy to oblige. Let’s face it, we are hardware junkies and anyone
who tells us they not only want to let us look at a product before it
is released *AND* to compare it to another product we just reviewed better
have their UPS account number ready.
