So you got a window, and you can see inside your case. It looks great, but it is just missing…something. Some pizzazz, some punch. It is just not what you envisioned when you set out on the long road to mod your computer into your dream machine.
What to do? Well, you have several choices, and which one you pick depends upon the overall look you are going for, your budget, and your creativity.
The easy way out is to purchase an off-the-shelf appliqué. These come in a variety of sizes and colors that range from something that looks like a two dimensional laser etch to UV reactive. There are hundreds of choices out there for under $10, and for a few dollars more you can have one custom designed.
The next choice is a 2-D laser etch. Again, there are hundreds of designs out there (basically all the appliqué designs) that can be etched into a window for around $15-30. These have the advantage over the appliqués because they are both permanent and look really cool. As with the appliqués you can also get custom work done for a few dollars more. Of course, you can also do this by hand with a dremel is you have some artistic ability.
The final option is a 3-D laser etch. These are done with high precisions lasers that basically burn little dots on the window. It uses gray scaling techniques to give the impression that the image is 3 dimensional. There are only a few places that perform this level of etching. While they all have some stock images to choose from, the real fun stuff is when you take an image that you created or picked and have it etched on your window.
The 3D laser etch image can be anything from a photo to graphic in Photoshop, and they come out in amazing detail. Today we are taking a look at what our friends at Voyeurmods.com can do with their high end laser.
