It seems
Thermalright, one of the leading manufacturers of air cooling systems
available today just won’t give it a rest. Yes that right, they’ve
churned out yet another exciting new product for us to strap to the test
beds. Today it’s the new ALX-800 (AMD only) Hybrid performance cooler.
I say hybrid because this block is comprised of two heat dissipating metals
instead of the usual solid block of copper or aluminum. The idea behind
this design is to lower both the price and weight of the ALX in order
to bring the new cooler into the reaches of the more budget minded enthusiasts
such as myself. Now, now, don’t get your panties in a twist! I can
tell you’ve just seen the word “budget” and the first
thing to your mind was an inevitable drop in performance and quality,
but this one looks promising. The ALX-800 shares the same copper base
design as the award winning SLK series which should allow it to easily
handle any sudden temperature spikes from the CPU’s core. This combined
with one or two other little improvements should allow this little bargain
bin beauty to rise to the top of its peers. Let’s take a look and
see shall we?
