It’s
interesting to watch the trends in computer cooling accessories. For the
last couple of years, the trend was geared towards extreme performance.
Everyone would sit back and marvel at the massive airflow their Delta
fans were creating. They would smile and show their jealous buddies what
a jewel they had bought. Of course they couldn’t actually hear their
friend’s response over the 45 decibel wailing, but they were secure
in their belief that they had the best cooling available. As computer’s
become more common place though, the trend has become much more practical
and a heck of a lot easier on the ears. Most people have begun to realize
that you shouldn’t need hearing protection anytime you enter the
same room as your computer. This new trend is starting to favor adequate
cooling that is quiet enough not to interfere with your computer enjoyment.
So following this silent trend, we will be taking a closer look at one
of the new products from the SilenX Corporation. They have kindly sent
us some of their new 80mm thermistor fans for us to evaluate. These fans
are advertised as quiet (less than 15dB), durable, and they have a new
temperature probe that will allow them to automatically raise or lower
the RPM depending on your case temps. So read on and let’s see if
these fans further the quest for quiet/ effective PC cooling.
