| Introduction |
GruntvillE’s
roots go way back to the day when GrunT
the CasE was first displayed in a forum where people had a love
for a sexy case. GrunT the CasE was an instant hit and became so popular
that I wanted to start a little site to answer all of the questions
people had about it in a single place. Well bandwidth was limited
back then and the site was constantly down. I got with a very good
friend of mine and started chatting and we decided to start GruntvillE.com.
Well here we are today reviewing high-end hardware for the masses
and home to the top case modders in the world. We have not forgotten
our roots. Every one of the GruntvillE staff members is still a sucker
for a sexy case. One look at the V1100
Sky reviewed a few months back and my blood was boiling, I had to
see the others in the line. I was not the only one interested but
lucky for me, I already had the request made. Lian Li’s “V”
series certainly gets my approval for being a sexy case but we have
to get past the sleek sexy side panels and smooth rounded edges. One
look at these cases and anyone is interested in them. This series
also has some serious competition. Silverstone, ThermalTake, Cooler
master, Antec, Kingwin, Chenbro and many other brands all offer sexy
cases. What we’re trying to find is a case that reeks of machismo
but follows up with good form and function and of course the ability
to be modded.
Extreme cases we see like Mashie’s Y2K bug, Crimson’s Matrix, Hobbes’ StormBringer and many more in that category are far beyond a great looking case but ask any one of them what is involved with changing out hardware. This is no walk in the park in any of their cases. Ergonomics and function are very important for most people in their choice of a new case. We know most of the Grunts reading this are constantly upgrading their systems. Being able to quickly change out components is not something they take lightly; it’s a “must have” feature.
I’ll be taking a look at the features of the V2000 and building a system in this case. There is no way anyone can review a case without actually building a system and experiencing the install. There are so many little things you can miss. I’ll also be keeping in mind that the V2000 has some big shoes to fill from within its own family. The Lian Li 70 series that the V2000 series is replacing is considered by many as the best Full Tower case on the market. Let’s hope the V2000 follows its older sibling’s footsteps.
Performance-PCs is well known for their modding abilities. They have been a great asset to the modding community in the fact that they offer custom work at reasonable prices with fast turn around. They do so many mods that they normally have product ready to ship in a day or two. This includes modular PSU’s, Case Windows and more. There are only a handful of companies that fit into this unique niche and I for one appreciate them all. It was also difficult to even get a stock case for review from them; they wanted to send it out modified to show off some of their abilities. I promised we would review a modded case from them in the future. With the great prices Performace-PCs has on the V Series and the fact that most of our regular readers want to do the modding themselves, the stock case would be a better item for review here at GruntvillE. Now, I also know that we have a lot of readers that think Dremel is a four letter word so fear not, the modded case review will let you know what is available in the form of custom pre-mods from performance-pcs. |
