| The
Outside |
|
| The outside looks like the current SOHO fileserver
cases. The have included front mounted USB 2.0 and Firewire
connections. Great for hooking up temporary devices like digital
cameras and such. The color is a nice metallic gray. We were
a little disappointed that the front bezel is not quite the
same color as the metal case, but it compliments it well. |
|
To this day, Antec has had the most rock solid
case frames that we have ever seen. This steel case is 1.0mm
thick. With the doors off, we tested the integrity of the case
by applying weight to the top of the case and tried twisting
it. There was virtually no twisting noted. You might want to
think twice about using this case for your LAN Rig unless you
are able to lug around this bad boy weighing in at 27lbs.
The case is riveted, and all of the edges have been rounded
or machined to rid of sharp edges. No cut fingers on this case! |

| The
Inside |

|
| Inside the case are the parts you will need,
screws, keys, and rails. This case does NOT come with a power
supply, so keep that in mind when considering your budget. |

|
| One thing that we did not like (and this is
not an Antec specific issue) is the front mounted USB and Firewire
cables. Although the wires are clearly labeled, we usually never
hook these up because there are so many wires. |

|
| We would like to see these put into a “wire-harness”
type assembly so you would not have to worry about tedious wiring
(hint-hint Antec).
This case does not have a removable motherboard tray, which
can make installing a motherboard somewhat awkward.
|

|
The inside of the case has the Antec removable
hard drive cages. Just pull back on the silver handle and
it slides on out. This makes adding, switching or removing
hard drives quick and simple. On downside to the removable
HD cages are the increase in vibration caused by the HD.
Another nice feature is the 5 1/4in drive rails. This makes
installation and removal a snap. You just attach the rails
to both sides of your drive using screws. Then slide it, from
the front on the case into the bay. The drive rails just click
in place.
|

|
| The fan brackets are another convenient Antec
feature. No more cracking your fans trying to force those little
fan screws thru them. All of the fan brackets in this case hold
80mm fans. The bracket is a light purple, which is not our favorite
color. As modders, this a small issue and nothing a can of spray
paint couldn’t tackle. The brackets pop out of the case
with a little pressure on one side. This makes fan installation
so simple. There is a possibility that the fan bracket could
cause an increase in vibrations with some fans, but I have not
experienced this. There are 4 Antec fan brackets in the case
and this includes two black fans in the back of the case. |
