First of all, a special thanks to Coolergiant for allowing GruntvillE to review the newest power supply; the EG495P-SFMA24P 480W. Next, let me thank Coolergiant for teaching this old dog a new trick! With so many PSU’s available on the market it can get confusing. It seems almost all are rated over 500 watts these days. Are they all the same? I mean a watt is a watt, right?
Now days you can choose your colors, not only the PSU but the sleeving, led fans, molex connectors and yes even the colors of your pre-modded PSU windows. All these things are critical to having that pimped up rig, right? Anything less than 500 watts these days would just not provide enough power for today’s custom modded rigs. With all the fans, lights, drives and sound it would just have to be at least 500 watts, right?
Well, I learned in the past few days the answers to the above questions are wrong, wrong and wrong! You see Enermax taught me a lesson of voltage stability. It is much more important than total output wattage ratings. A little glitch in the voltage output and it relates to a hiccup in your system. In turn that will result in a freeze or a crashed program. Let me assure you not all power supplies are created equal!
Voltage stability creates a strong stable system that will give you hours of enjoyment in a gaming rig or hours of trouble free and error free computing on your business rig. I know this old dog will be using different criteria for his future PSU shopping trips! Follow along and find out just what changed my mind. |
